For the Class of 1971, our time at Malvern Prep can be measured from August 1967, as we prepared to get started, to July 1971, our first month as new energized graduates. During those forty eight months we focused on homework, sports, girls, music, building friendships, discovering ourselves, dealing with happiness and sorrow, and growing up. But there was a world outside Malvern, and it was evolving with us. We had to seek out the news of the day in newspapers and 30 minutes of a TV broadcast (at a specific time, with no replay). Music was a tad easier to follow. We only needed a radio, a tape player (including 8-track), a local record store, or a record player, coupled with our conversations at lunch or the bus ride home. For social and cultural news, we only needed to open our eyes to see changes in dress, the actions of our heroes, shifting norms, our maturity, and religious beliefs. All three - world news, music, and social changes - affected our thinking, our minds, our emotional state.
Yearbooks are excellent vehicles to remember our times at Malvern. We hope the images below will help us to remember the top news stories, the top music hits, and the cultural stories that left an imprint on our souls over those 48 months.
